Lorenzo Insigne has set his sights on a recall to the Italian national side after failing to make Antonio Conte’s first squad.

The Napoli sensation was a part of the 2014 World Cup group, but he’s been ignored for the September ties against Holland and Norway.

“I need to be a protagonist with Napoli first,” the 23-year-old attacker noted. “I just need to keep working hard with my club and then the call will come.

The Napoli sensation was a part of the 2014 World Cup group, but he’s been ignored for the September ties against Holland and Norway.

“I need to be a protagonist with Napoli first,” the 23-year-old attacker noted. “I just need to keep working hard with my club and then the call will come.

“Once that happens then I will be delighted, but I need to concentrate on working well with my club in the meantime.”

Insigne, one goal in six caps, has had a difficult start to the season at the Stadio San Paolo after being jeered in the Champions League qualifier against Atheltic Bilbao.

“The key thing is to play games,” he added. “Then the fans can applaud or whistle as they like…”

Italy face Holland in a friendly tonight and then start their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign in Norway on September 9.
