Lorenzo Insigne admits his Coppa Italia winning brace for hometown club Napoli was “the greatest joy of my career.”

The 22-year-old netted twice early on to help secure a 3-1 Final victory over Fiorentina last night.

“This is the greatest joy of my career,” he told Radio Kiss Kiss after the dramatic match at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.

“Winning a trophy with the Napoli jersey is something truly unique. I always try to shoot with that bend on the ball and this time it went well.

“We played a good game, even if we suffered a lot when down to 10 men. My role? The important thing is that Napoli wins, not where I play.”

The game was delayed by 45 minutes amid reports a Napoli fan had died from gunshot wounds, but he is in hospital after surgery and police insist the incident was unrelated to the match.

“It’s a shame what happened beforehand, so our thoughts go to the guy in hospital. I dedicate the goals to my wife and my child, but above all to the fan in hospital now.”

Italy Coach Cesare Prandelli was in the stands of the Stadio Olimpico, so was Insigne’s performance a message for the World Cup selector?

“I’ve been sending messages since the start of the season. You can see how willing I am to sacrifice myself so I can help the team tactically.”
