Lorenzo Insigne’s father has denied calling Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti a ‘flop’ after the Partenopei’s Europa League exit on Thursday evening.

Carmine Insigne reportedly made the remark as he walked out of the San Paolo, where Napoli were beaten 1-0 by Arsenal, having also watched his son substituted by Ancelotti.

However, he told CalcioNapoli24: “I want to make it clear that at the end of Napoli-Arsenal I didn’t give any interviews, nor did I speak to journalists.

“Words have been attributed to me that aren’t true and that I haven’t said. I never ranted about Ancelotti. I wouldn’t dare.

“Lorenzo was disappointed with the exit from the Europa League, like we all are. It’s normal.

“Ancelotti himself pointed out that there was no problem between them. Substitutions are part of the game, as are whistles from the fans. However, it ends there.

“Like I’ve already said, Lorenzo loves Napoli, he’s proud to be captain and he’s very happy here.”
