Maurizio Sarri’s agent says Verona fans' treatment of Napoli playmaker Lorenzo Insigne was “racism”.

The playmaker was the subject of whistles and chanting during the Partenopei’s 2-0 win yesterday, in which he scored.

Insigne was born and brought up in Naples, with elements of the north of Italy having a history of discrimination against those from the South.

“I’m ashamed to be Italian after the match in Verona,” Alessandro Pellegrini, agent of Napoli Coach Maurizio Sarri told Radio Crc.

“I’m ashamed by certain articles, which absurdly stated that kissing the badge is incitement. There’s a real problem, this kind of offence is racism.

“Instead of admonishing Insigne, who was kicked the ball, [referee Antonio] Damato should have stopped the match for these chants.”
