Gokhan Inler says he is open to the prospect of fighting for first-team action at Napoli alongside Marouane Fellaini.

The Partenopei are in continued discussions with Manchester United over a proposed loan move for the Belgium international.

Representing increased competition in the middle of the park, one potential future teammate of the 26-year-old’s sees only positives.

“It is normal to have competition in your role, otherwise you are not a professional footballer,” Inter has told Sport.ch this week.

“I am used to it. The arrival of players that are as strong [as Fellaini] would only be good for us.

“I will always give everything for this shirt, as I have always done in my career.”

Inler is currently with Napoli as they continue pre-season preparations. This week they defeated Barcelona, which should provide confidence ahead of facing Athletic Bilbao in the Champions League Play-off round.

“Against Barcelona it was a very important game. Many of us were returning from our holidays, after the World Cup. We are preparing well for our future engagements – ahead of us are the two Champions League Play-off games and we want to do well, whilst on Monday we also face an important test against Paris Saint-Germain.

“We want to pick up a positive result against the champions of France.

“Can we aim for the Scudetto this year? We want to be in contention right up until the end.”
