Marek Hamsik’s first Coach at Slovan Bratislava has offered advice to Napoli on how to bring out the best in him.

The 27-year-old is facing the club he developed at as a youngster this evening with the Vesuviani in the second round of the Europa League group stages.

Ahead of that, the attacker’s first Coach at the Slovakian outfit has reflected on what a younger Hamsik was like and how the player should be handled to counter his dip in form.

“He was a child prodigy, but also a good guy, a champion of simplicity,” Igor Bobik has told the Gazzetta dello Sport.

“During the week he slept in one of the apartments inside the Tehelne Pole Stadium, now under renovation.

“He would go out with teammates and spent the weekend with [me and my family], we played tennis and ice hockey. He always ate pasta and chicken, and collected football figurines. He has always been humble, discreet but smiling.

“He had a great vision of the game, he was a central midfielder – for me, he was at his best during his two years at Slovan.

“I say to Marek to continue to give his all. But because Hamsik gives his all, it is also necessary to give him freedom to manoeuvre, to believe in him more, let him play with continuity and indulge his creative instinct.

“He is a fighter, who always wants to win. The best formation for him? The 3-4-3 played at Slovan in 2000, when he was in central midfield.”
