The Aquile eventually took all three points against Bologna with goals from Luis Alberto and Immobile, although Lorenzo De Silvestri got one back in stoppages to set up a tense finale.

“We took our foot off the gas a little towards the end and their goal scared us,” the striker told DAZN.

“Bologna are tough to face, they were determined to turn their recent form around, but we were solid and converted our chances.”

It was the second consecutive Lazio victory this week after they beat Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

“We put in a great Champions League performance midweek and that used up a lot of energy, but we needed the points in Serie A too, so it was a tough slog.

“I am happy that my goals help the team, I always want to do better and keep improving. We’ve seen how wonderful it is to play in Europe and want to do it again next season. It takes energy away, both mental and physical, but we’ve got a large squad and must use it to the full.”

Luis Alberto’s goal celebration seemed angry, as if he was shouting at someone in the crowd.

“He was super fired up to win at all costs, so was just trying to get everyone else on that level. I’m really happy for him, he’s a leader.”
