Ciro Immobile admits giving Lazio the Champions League knockout round win over Bayern Munich is ‘what we dream of as children.’

The first leg of this Champions League Round of 16 could not have gone much better for the Biancocelesti, who won 1-0 thanks to an Immobile penalty.

Dayot Upamecano gave the spot-kick away and was also sent off for the foul, going in studs-up on Gustav Isaksen’s ankle.

Even before going down to 10 men, the fact remains that Bayern failed to get a single shot on target and Ivan Provedel barely saw the ball.

“I was convinced this team would give everything, we wanted to give a wonderful night to these people and we did it,” Immobile told Amazon Prime Video Italia.

“It’s a pity we didn’t make more of our other scoring opportunities, especially going into the second leg, but this is good.

“Playing fixtures like this gives you such emotion and sharing it with these fans is what we dream of as children.”

It was Immobile’s ninth goal in just 12 career Champions League appearances for Lazio.

“We prepared this game to win, even if we had only a 10 per cent chance, we still would’ve given our all.”

The second leg will be in Munich on March 5 and Lazio have a 1-0 lead with no away goals rule, so if they lose by any one-goal margin, it will go to extra time.

Former Bayern Munich strikers Luca Toni and Miroslav Klose were on the touchline as part of the coverage for Italian television, so what did Immobile say as he ran past them?

“Just that it was a reunion of hitmen and it was a pleasure to see them.”

  1. So disrespected in Italy he keeps proving people how underrated he is.

9 goals in 12 Champions League matches is Messiesc, actually even better, CR7 level as goalscoring 😮
