The 22-year-old is with Genoa for the 2012-13 season, after they bought 50 per cent of his Juventus contract last January, midway through a very productive loan spell with Pescara.

Anticipating the step up from Serie B to A and on the expectation that he can follow up his 28-goal return for the Delfini at Marassi, Immobile is confident he is in the right place.

“It’s always important to choose the right place and Genoa is it, here strikers have always done well, I think to Marco Borriello, Luca Toni and Diego Milito,” he reflected in today’s Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Serie A is different, but I’ll put in all the effort to prove my worth, when a guy like me comes into a team like Genoa, then it’s already a dream come true.

“Would I be aiming for the national team? Obviously, I’m thinking about it and if I do well with Genoa, with commitment, sacrifice and humility, perhaps an Azzurri call will come.”
