Lazio forward Ciro Immobile said he realised ‘a personal dream’ when he picked up the Capocannoniere title in 2019-20.

Immobile scored 36 times in Serie A last season and helped Lazio reach fourth and qualify for the Champions League for the first time in 13 years.

“The Golden Boot was my target, a personal dream,” Immobile told Radio Esercito. “I came very close to it a couple of years ago but due to an injury I missed my opportunity.

“This year, COVID tried to stop me but I knew that my teammates would help me in every way.”

Immobile revealed he is living the ‘best moment of my careeer’ and is proud to be a part of the Italian national team.

“It’s the greatest satisfaction of my individual career, but collectively I have had many. We won a lot with Lazio and did very well with the national side. This is the best moment of my career.

“The national team is everyone’s dream but a fortune for the few and when you wear that shirt, you must enjoy all the emotions it gives you to the fullest.

“It’s an immense pleasure, wearing the colours of your own nation is a source of pride. We are a team with the right mix of experienced players and young talent.

“We have created an excellent path so far and there are many expectations. This gives us an extra momentum to play in the European Championship.”

His target is to reach the Euro 2020 squad in ‘top shape’ and hopes to entertain the Aquile fans along the way.

“My goal with the Azzurri shirt is to get in top form to play in the European Championship,” he said. “With Lazio we will play in the Champions League and we want to return to entertain our fans like we did before the lockdown."
