Dries Mertens has admitted he wants to stay at Napoli for ‘a long time’ and believes that they can win the Europa League this season.

The 26-year-old has become a mainstay in the Partenopei XI despite only arriving in the summer.

But the Belgium international has claimed that he knew straight away that he would stay at the club for years, and has urged teammate Pepe Reina to do the same.

“The call from Napoli was very important for me,” he told +N. “I quickly realised what this project was all about.

“I knew as soon as I arrived that I want to stay here for a long time.

“Right now I’m focusing on the Europa League. I believe we can go through and go far this season. We have beaten teams stronger than Porto this season.

“Reina? My appeal to Pepe is – stay here!”
