It was a hugely entertaining encounter at the Stadio Franchi, as Duvan Zapata’s brace in the first half was cancelled out by a Dusan Vlahovic double.

Lucas Martinez Quarta’s handling offence then led to a penalty, converted by substitute Ilicic, even if Bartlomiej Dragowski did get a foot to it.

“We are known for this, the game is never closed with us. We know that too, but our strength is that we get back on our feet and react to setbacks,” Ilicic told Sky Sport Italia.

“Having said that, we need to improve our defending in future.”

After converting the penalty, Ilicic ran to the touchline to hug teammate Cristian Romero.

“Romero told me before the game that I had to hug him if I scored, but I said I had to come on first! It went well, so I hugged him.”

Ilicic has been linked with a move to Milan, especially as he is no longer necessarily playing that regularly for Atalanta now.

“I don’t want to talk about that. I want to end the season well, then we'll see.”
