Napoli’s Edinson Cavani would be a Golden Ball contender if he was playing for a European giant, says Rino Foschi.

The new Genoa sporting director, whose side face Napoli this weekend, knows all about the Uruguayan as they were together during a spell at Palermo.

“We are all aware of the value of Cavani,” Foschi told Radio CRC after the Uruguayan scored four in the Europa League last night. “Let’s hope he wore out his batteries on Thursday…

“Edinson has the quality to become one of the best players in Europe. If he played for Barcelona he would be even more prolific and he could even win the Golden Ball.

“I love him like a son, but I’m superstitious and I won’t say hello to him before this weekend’s game…”

The 25-year-old has seven goals in nine League appearances for the Azzurri so far this season.
