“I remember my first match in an Inter jersey and this is another debut. I’ve been waiting a long time for this game and I hope it’ll be a victory,” the striker told Inter TV.

“At the end of the day, it’s the team that plays and not Icardi against Harry Kane. We hope to all have a great game and we need it after this start in Serie A, as it would turn the momentum around.

“I feel relaxed. We are accustomed to having the fans behind us, but it’ll be a special game for them too and we hope to make them very happy.”

Icardi also spoke to Sky Sport Italia before kick-off at San Siro.

“Many thoughts went through my mind and I’d been waiting a while to play in the Champions League. Today, the moment has come.

“After a shaky start to the season, which we weren’t expecting, putting in a great performance in this tournament in front of our fans can give us that push.

“I don’t feel anxious. I try to do my best, so far I’ve missed a couple of games, but we’re only at the start and I know the goals will come eventually. I’m not worried at not scoring.

“I am worried if anything for the results of the team, as if Inter win without my goals, that’s fine.”
