Mauro Icardi again praised new Inter Coach Luciano Spalletti, but admits he is “still not at 100 per cent” after a lengthy injury lay-off.

The Argentine hitman has been out of action since mid-May with a serious muscular tear and made his comeback off the bench during a 3-1 friendly win over Villarreal.

“I couldn’t wait to get on the field, play a few minutes in a match situation and get more accustomed to the tactician’s movements,” Icardi told Inter Channel.

“I couldn’t wait to get on the field, play a few minutes in a match situation and get more accustomed to the tactician’s movements,” Icardi told Inter Channel.

“I worked hard on my own and tried to return for international duty in June, but unfortunately it was not possible. I’ve been working to strengthen the leg and recover from an injury that was not easy to deal with.

“I am very happy to be back playing again, though it does still hurt a bit, I’m still not at 100 per cent and that’s only to be expected. I can deal with it during a game and even managed to get in an assist.

“I always try to do what the Coach asks of me, so a lot of movement and pressing defenders. The team looks good and, as I’ve said before in this pre-season camp, the Coach has clear ideas, knows what he wants and transmits his concepts to us.

“I hope that we score more goals than last season, too.”
