Just hours after tweeting Real Madrid were negotiating for Inter striker Mauro Icardi, the same journalist has backtracked on his initial claim.

Libertad Digital’s sports editor Vicente Azpitarte first wrote on Thursday that Madrid were in Rome to discuss a deal for Icardi.

However, it was quickly put to Azpitarte that the Argentine’s €110m release clause for foreign clubs had expired last month.

Just hours after tweeting Real Madrid were negotiating for Inter striker Mauro Icardi, the same journalist has backtracked on his initial claim.

However, it was quickly put to Azpitarte that the Argentine’s €110m release clause for foreign clubs had expired last month.

He then followed up with a tweet which read Los Blancos ‘aren’t going to sign’ the Nerazzurri captain, explaining ‘the representative’s offer was unsuccessful’.
