Interviewed by Topolino for the Nerazzurri’s 110th birthday, the Argentine was asked how it felt to take on such an important responsibility so early in his career.

“At that age it’s not a normal thing, but it’s in my character to face these challenges,” Icardi replied.

“Receiving Javier Zanetti’s armband gave me so much as a player and a man, I’m proud to represent the team and the fans and I try to do my best.

“Love is the essence of this club, we all love each other in the way a family does. We work together for the good of everyone, and that’s Inter.

“It’s not like that everywhere.

“What would I give Inter for their birthday? Hopefully a lot of goals and trophies, to bring joy and satisfaction.”

Icardi was also asked how it feels to play at San Siro.

“It’s extraordinary, there are all these people shouting ‘forza Inter’ and your name! I’m very lucky to be able to experience that emotion.”

Finally, the striker was asked for the Beneamata’s best-ever player, and the best in football history.

“Javier Zanetti. And Lionel Messi. Argentinians like me.”
