Inter forward Mauro Icardi says he could never opt to play for Italy on the international stage as he feels Argentinian.
The 21-year-old was born in Argentina but moved to the peninsula in 2011 when he signed for Sampdoria, and has remained ever since.
“I have always said I feel Argentinian, with respect to Italy,” Icardi told Style. “So I will not be playing for the Azzurri.”
The player then praised club Coach Walter Mazzarri for his role in helping him develop as a player.
“I can only say thank you to the boss because with him I have been able to train with consistency and he has given me chances.
“I have looked to take these chances to the best of my ability.”
