The Argentina international hadn’t found the back of the net since January 5, which included a month out through injury, but ran riot against his former club at Marassi.

Ivan Perisic opened the scoring with a looping header, but then the Icardi show started.

He converted a penalty – his 100th Serie A goal – added a second with a stunning back-heel flick, then blasted under the bar after Emiliano Viviano parried a Rafinha attempt.

The fourth goal came after the restart, a half-volley that bounced off the ground to loop over Viviano.

It’s a nightmare eight days for Sampdoria, who were beaten 4-1 by Crotone last week.
