“I would’ve preferred for Icardi to have scored from the start, but knowing the history of strikers this can happen,” Mancini said at today’s Press conference.

“I think it's negative because with three or four more goals we would have three points more, but sooner or later he will start again.

“Hernan Crespo at Lazio had a year where he scored 21 goals from January onwards. Icardi will get back to scoring very important goals.

“Icardi must be calm and start thinking of being useful in other ways, how to move for the team. He must not get too agitated and he must work.

“There is a chance of resting him, for the fact that we have two away trips in three days and there could be some fresh players.

“Jovetic is different from Icardi and more inclined to leave the penalty area. I think the two of them have to work for each other more, if the attackers rarely look for each other then they will have fewer chances to score.

“They must understand each other better because they haven’t played together much. A striker in general can’t stay at the goal with the defence 60 metres away, they must move and give options.”
