Inter striker Mauro Icardi says Roberto Mancini has changed his game – “before I was just thinking of scoring”.

The forward has hit 16 and 22 goals in his last two seasons for the Nerazzurri, a marked improvement from the nine he got in his only full season under Walter Mazzarri.

“I’ve changed a lot,” Icardi acknowledged in an interview with Inter Channel.

“This year my style of play has become closer to what it was at Sampdoria, when I chased loose balls and helped the team.

“I’ve changed a lot,” Icardi acknowledged in an interview with Inter Channel.

“This year my style of play has become closer to what it was at Sampdoria, when I chased loose balls and helped the team.

“Mancini always tells me ‘a goal is a reward for helping the team’, whereas before I was thinking only and exclusively of scoring.”

The Beneamata once again failed to qualify for the Champions League in the season which just finished, and Icardi admits to regrets.

"The season that just ended was one of big changes, just look at the transfer market.

"We had many new players, the club invested to have a team which could try to win something.

"The idea was to have a great league campaign, and at first we did really well with an extraordinary first half of the season.

"Then a really dark period came in January which undid all of our previous good work."
