There is confusion and tension at Inter, as Mauro Icardi’s intermediary insists he “was not informed” when Luciano Spalletti left him out against Lazio.

The striker only returned to training this week after 40 days out, officially due to a knee injury, but the fact he needed an intermediary to negotiate his comeback to the squad suggests there was something else going on.

The striker only returned to training this week after 40 days out, officially due to a knee injury, but the fact he needed an intermediary to negotiate his comeback to the squad suggests there was something else going on.

Icardi was expected to be in the squad, especially as Lautaro Martinez is injured, but in a surprise move, Spalletti announced in his Press conference that the former captain would be left out again.

“Since the day of Icardi’s return to training, he has been at the full disposal of the squad, behaving professionally and following the steps worked out by me, CEO Beppe Marotta and President Steven Zhang in the interests of both Inter and the player,” lawyer Nicoletti told news agency ANSA.

“I was not informed as to the decision to leave Icardi out of the squad, so not knowing the reasons for it, I cannot comment on that.

“I spoke to Marotta daily, who always told me that everything was going positively.”
