“I really did not expect it all to happen so quickly,” he told FCInterNews.
“In just two years I am at a top club at global level like Inter. I am only 20 years old, but leaving home so young for my profession really helped a great deal.
“There is no pressure with the amount Inter paid for me. I just know that I have to be in Milan on Monday and I can’t wait to get working.
“Mazzarri promised me I’ll be important for Inter and I hope that I don’t let him down. Taking on the Number 9 is an important challenge at a side like Inter, but I am not afraid. I want to score many goals and help fight for the Scudetto.”
Italy Coach Cesare Prandelli had shown an interest in having Icardi represent the Azzurri, but the forward preferred to wait for Argentina.
“In order to reach the national team I must first do well for Inter, so that is my objective for now. Obviously going to the World Cup with the Seleccion would be the ultimate joy. I think I am different in terms of characteristics to Carlos Tevez, Gonzalo Higuain and Diego Milito.”
Icardi had been linked with Juventus as well as a return to La Liga, where he was part of the Barcelona youth academy from 2008 to 2011.
