Mauro Icardi says Inter hope to learn from mistakes made against Cagliari, and that he would willingly sign a new contract with the club.

The striker is believed to be in negotiations with the club over a new deal, since a summer offer from Monaco was apparently turned down.

Asked for an update on the situation, the 21-year-old was clear on his intention, if not the progress.

I honestly do not know anything, my agent is dealing with it. Should I get the call I only need to sign,” Icardi has told reporters today.

“Would I be happy to extend? Yes, if my agent calls me to sign the renewal then I am definitely happy.

“When I left Sampdoria for inter I knew this was a great team, and I am happy to be here.”

Icardi was talking at Inter’s pre-match Press conference ahead of facing Qarabag in the Europa League, and was asked about the prospect of continuing his relationship in attack with Dani Osvaldo.

“To play with him is to be paired with a great striker, as is the case with Palacio.

“It is logical that we want all want to play, whilst when we are in the field we work well together. As we did against Sassuolo, for example.”

The Nerazzurri head into tomorrow evening’s match looking to put right Sunday’s 4-1 home defeat to Cagliari.

“We are all sorry, but it has helped us to continue to work even better. In this game it is clear that we were not focused and that they were very good.

“It was a mistake that we hope to remedy and hope does not happen again.”
