Mauro Icardi has conceded that he is 'flattered' by reports that he will leave Sampdoria at the end of the season and join Inter.

Rumours have circulated since January that the Argentine forward would sign for the Nerazzurri.

And the 20-year-old has admitted that the idea of playing for the San Siro side fills him with joy.

“I am glad to hear these stories,” he told Corriere dello Sport. “Talk about the transfer market is not for me.

“But I am flattered by the Inter rumours. They are a great team with many great players from Argentina.

“San Siro is a beautiful stadium and will remain in my memory forever.

“I have not played there yet though. Both times I've gone there I have been on the bench.”

The former Barcelona man then commented on Javier Zanetti's injury, and comparisons with Diego Milito.

“For us Argentinians, Zanetti is a myth. He is a great champions and I am very sorry for his injury.

“I am certain though, that he will return to play.

“It is a great compliment that people compare me with Milito.

“But I have to prove my quality over a long time.”
