Mauro Icardi expected Inter to struggle against SPAL, so his brace was decisive as they “fought hard to win the game.”

The Argentina international got both goals – even if the first took a big deflection off Johan Djourou – to secure their sixth consecutive victory in all competition.

“They were important goals to give us the three points,” he told Sky Sport Italia after the 2-1 result.

The Argentina international got both goals – even if the first took a big deflection off Johan Djourou – to secure their sixth consecutive victory in all competition.

“They were important goals to give us the three points,” he told Sky Sport Italia after the 2-1 result.

“We struggled here last season and knew we had to give something more this term. It’s important that we got the result and fought hard to win the game.”

Icardi was asked if the goal against Tottenham Hotspur that broke his duck would prove pivotal, as he hasn’t stopped scoring since.

“I scored 29 goals last season, it’s not as if I was having such a dry run! I am happy if goals come, but the important thing is that Inter get the victory and I work for the team.”
