Inter legend Ronaldo insists current captain Mauro Icardi “can still improve” but “will never understand” those who question him.

The Argentine finished as joint Capocannoniere this season, scoring 29 goals in just 34 Serie A appearances.

“That’s Icardi, someone who thinks above all about goals and he scores goals,” Ronaldo explained to Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I hope he’s the first to know that he can always improve. But anyone who questions a striker who scores 29 goals – and decisive ones too – I will never understand.

“In Italy 29 goals are a lot. Trust me, I know something about this.

“Will he stay? You’d have to ask him, I don’t think Inter have doubts. To build a squad worthy of the Champions League everyone has to stay, if possible.

“Not giving continuity to a season like this would be a waste of effort, and I don’t think that’s Inter’s intention.”
