“We had started well with the right mentality, but the equaliser was a ricochet and we suffered this psychological collapse that really makes me think,” the Coach told Udinese TV.

“We still have some mental blocks to overcome and to shake off some of our scars. We’re still carrying the anxiety of the past and the new players perhaps feel a little freer psychologically.”

Udinese risked relegation last term and are now forced to rebuild without talisman Antonio Di Natale.

“We keep conceding goals on set plays and that is certainly something we need to work on. We’re creating a great deal, but I am working very hard on the defensive aspect.

“Over the last three years, Udinese conceded 174 goals. That’s too many. We need to be more incisive, more determined and above all focused, because in a tough league like Serie A, so much can depend on these situations.”
