“The squad is fully involved in our work and the new arrivals are settling in gradually, but it’s going to be a long season and we have what it takes to do well,” the coach told the official Fiorentina website.

“Criticism is natural when you don’t get results, but we must be strong in heart and mind to improve through hard work. What we want is to create a team with a positive and attacking attitude, but we haven’t been working together for long, so it’s difficult to find that balance straight away.

“Out of 45 training sessions since the start of the season, I think at most we had about 20 with the complete squad taking part. The injuries to Franck Ribery and German Pezzella have been particularly damaging.

“Pezzella wants to play tomorrow, but we also have Martinez Quarta who is eager to get on the pitch as soon as possible. Jose Callejon wants to play too, but we have to evaluate everyone with the medical staff to get the best out of them.”

Viola President Rocco Commisso reiterated his faith in Iachini, but the coach is also well aware that results are crucial.

“President Commisso and the club can see the quality of the work we are doing. Nobody has a magic wand, but we need to play our football with clear heads against an Udinese side that has a lot of individual quality in the ranks. We’ve seen us start strong in a few recent games only to fall away over the course of time.”
