Beppe Iachini admits Sassuolo failed to take advantage of promising positions in their 2-2 draw with Benevento.

The Neroverdi came from behind to lead Serie A’s bottom club through two goals by Matteo Politano, but Chieck Diabate’s second strike of the afternoon handed Le Streghe a share of the points.

“We made some small errors. Benevento did well to punish us because they are playing with freedom,” Iachini, whose side remain only four points clear of the relegation zone, commented post-match.

“We needed to take more advantage of certain situations we had in attack. It’s a shame that the win didn’t come.

“Now we have to work on our mistakes and prepare one match at a time.”

Iachini, asked why Domenico Berardi did not start, pointed to the fact Sassuolo have another huge relegation clash against Verona coming up in midweek.

“Berardi took a knock in the last two matches and could not train very much.

“Today, I looked to manage the situation given that we also have Verona coming up.

“We still have a few days to see whether he will be able to start, but today we had to try to win.”
