Pescara boss Zdenek Zeman admits he failed to spark a response from his players last season.

The experienced Coach succeeded Massimo Oddo in February with the Delfini already well adrift at the bottom of Serie A.

Despite winning his first match against Genoa 5-0 and overseeing a marginal improvement in results, Zeman was unable to prevent the club from making an immediate return to Serie B.

“Last year I didn’t succeed in changing the mentality of the team,” the 70-year-old conceded.

“Last year I didn’t succeed in changing the mentality of the team,” the 70-year-old conceded.

“I wanted a reaction but it wasn’t there. The team was used to losing.

“We had to change things and do things to win. I didn’t succeed in my aim, so in July we started again from zero.”

Pescara begin their bid to return to the top-flight next weekend with a home match against Foggia.
