Erick Thohir has reiterated his belief in Walter Mazzarri and considered the Coach’s complaints of refereeing against Inter.

The Indonesian has spoken to the Corriere dello Sport this week on a number of matters relating to life at San Siro.

On from considering talk of his non-presence in Italy, the 43-year-old also reflected on sporting issues, including Walter Mazzarri’s future as Coach.

“So far I say, ‘Yes, he is the right Coach’. And I believe in him,” began Thohir on the matter.

“Before the end of the season we will meet and see if his vision coincides with that of the board and the club.

“Will we extend his contract beyond June 2015? It is too early to tell, but if our visions are in sync, he can be our Coach for a long time.

“I do not like teams that change the Coach every year, but I do not want a Coach who is bigger than the club, like Ferguson, for example, although for me Sir Alex is a legend.

“Mazzarri’s character? Every person has their character and I will not say which one is right and which is wrong.

“The Coach is our general and we trust him. I am the President and it is right that I may be criticised if things do not go well.

“The criticisms are positive, they are a drug. For me, for the players and for the Coach, because they stimulate you. If you cannot handle the pressure, you cannot stay at Inter.

“The draw with Cagliari? I am not angry, but disappointed, like the fans. I think it is normal because the first 45 minutes was not inter.

“In the second half, we did rather well. Mine is not a criticism, but the players have to look inside themselves and understand why they were so.”

Mazzarri has launched an attack on refereeing this season, complaining that La Beneamata have missed out on several points for decisions having gone against them.

“Are the referees penalising Inter? I do not know. The League has always had the best referees in the world. If you talk abroad about Italian referees, they all say they are the best. And they have to be as they can affect a result.

“Referees do not have to kill the games because in the end the audience understands the errors. Okay, referees are people and make mistakes, but if their mistakes continue, people can ask questions and have doubts.

“Constant, huge mistakes can create great damage, also to the League, because the referees are an important part of the system and must be there, as supporting actors, for the growth of Serie A.

“In many games so far we have had some episodes, so I do not know if there is something wrong or if we are just unlucky. Everyone has understood and seen what happened. Each with their own eyes – I with those of the President, the fans with those of the fans.

“Against Napoli, for example, we played well just like our opponents and I congratulated President De Laurentiis. On that occasion, however, there was an episode that conditioned the match [Ricky Alvarez’s red card].”

Thohir was asked of the possibility of seeing referees talk to the media after games, or receive assistance through technology.

“I’d like that they would talk to as to protect their decisions, right or wrong.

“If technology can help to limit the mistakes that people make, it is a positive.

“I do not agree with the complete use of technology, because football would lose the human aspect, but for example, it could be used for goal-line technology. For anyone in the field, but also for the media.”
