England Coach Roy Hodgson says there is ‘absolutely nothing wrong’ with Three Lions captain Steven Gerrard.

The Liverpool man has been reported to be carrying a groin injury over the last day or so but, speaking at a Press conference, the experienced tactician said he had no idea where the rumours had come from.

“I don't really understand the Steven Gerrard one,” Hodgson said. “I don't know what was wrong with him.

“Yesterday we did a training session where the players who played did a warm-down session and I worked with the nine who didn't take full part in the game [against Honduras].

“My understanding is he actually did some extra work at the end of the session and there is absolutely nothing wrong with him.”

Hodgson was also asked about the conditions he expects to face when England take on Italy in their opening World Cup match on Saturday.

“A lot has been said about the conditions for the first game in Manaus. We will see when we get there about how much conservation of energy will be necessary.

“We try to win every game and keeping possession of the ball will be important of course.

“You need to move things around but we will be hoping possession leads somewhere.”
