Gonzalo Higuain wants to “write history with Napoli” and “had absolutely no doubts about choosing this club.”

The striker spoke to newspaper Olè in Argentina and was very pleased with his first six months in Italy.

“Naples is an incredible city where football comes first, followed by everything else. For someone like me who loves this sport, it is a wonderful place, because they live for football.

“Thank God they loved me straight away, as the Neapolitans are very passionate and I find that enchanting.

“I had spoken to Pocho Lavezzi and Hugo Campagnaro before coming here, but I realised the Neapolitans are similar to Argentineans. Plus they have Diego Maradona in their hearts and that means they’ll always have a special affection for Argentineans.”

When Higuain left Real Madrid, he had been heavily linked with Arsenal, but opted for the Serie A side instead.

“I had absolutely no doubts about choosing this club. President Aurelio De Laurentiis convinced me straight away with a top level Coach like Rafa Benitez and his project.

“I want to help this team to grow and write history with Napoli. We know it is difficult, but we will try. In Italy football is more tactical, so it’s harder to find space and I’m sure I will improve my own game a lot by playing in this League.”
