Italy’s Minister for Health Roberto Speranza insists UEFA should be open to moving the Euro 2020 semi-finals and Final from Wembley if COVID cases continue to grow.

There have been calls from Italy, Germany and other nations to reconsider the venue for the fixtures, as the United Kingdom has seen cases sky-rocket due to the Delta variant.

Italy Prime Minister Mario Draghi said he would “ensure” the Final was not played in a city where the virus was spreading rapidly.

“I think that if the numbers in Great Britain continue to grow, then Draghi’s words show good common sense,” Minister for Health Speranza told Sky TG24 today.

“July 11 is still quite a long way away, so there will be all the time necessary for the competent authorities to verify and evaluate the situation.”

Italy play Austria at Wembley on Saturday in the Round of 16 and fans from both nations have been urged not to travel for the fixture.

There will be 1,500 Italy fans present at the stadium tomorrow, but they are all based in the United Kingdom.

While in Britain the COVID cases are spiking again, Italy will move every region to the lowest measures from Monday.
