The Neroverdi had the better scoring opportunities at San Siro and were only kept out by Handanovic’s saves, particularly on Kevin-Prince Boateng and Jeremie Boga.

“I made some saves, but that is my job,” shrugged the Slovenian on DAZN.

“It was a balanced encounter and I think the draw was the right result. We both wanted to play football and now we look to the next match.

“When you keep a clean sheet, the credit goes to the whole team, as it depends how many chances you allow the opposition to create. We can improve, but it’s a good start.”

The game was unusual, as it was played behind closed doors due to racist abuse from the Inter fans, so they were given special dispensation to allow in 11,000 children from local schools.

“We saw the kids were enjoying themselves and making a racket. It was lovely, as it feels sad to play in an empty stadium.”
