Napoli captain Marek Hamsik admits he “never imagined” he’d play 500 games for the club.

The Slovakian reached his half century in the 2-0 win at Sampdoria, meaning he should surpass Giuseppe Bruscolotti’s record of 511 next season.

“I remember my first Napoli match very well,” Hamsik wrote on his official website.

“It was in August 2007, we faced Cesena in the Coppa Italia and won 4-0. I played the whole game and scored a goal.
