The Slovakian international wanted to move to China this summer, but has decided to stay after Carletto’s arrival, which has seen him converted into a deep lying playmaker.

“Hamsik has adapted to the role much faster than he imagined,” Martin Petras said on Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.

“Marek is a top player and players like him fit in right away. Ancelotti has worked with very strong players throughout his career, so if he’s had this intuition there’ll be a reason.

“He extended [Andrea] Pirlo’s career thanks to a change of role, and it can be the same for Hamsik.

“Hamsik has rediscovered his enthusiasm, it must be said he’d lost it in the past few months.

“He’s too nice. He knows how to take free-kicks and penalties, he should do it more.

“Take last year for example, he was missing a blessed goal to reach [Diego] Maradona, which inevitably affected it because everyone talked about it.

“There was a match where they got a penalty and he didn’t step up to the spot, he left it to his teammates.

“If [Maurizio] Sarri had told a Neapolitan he’d always be taken off after 60 minutes, where do you think he’d have told him to go?

“We’re sure he’ll do very well in his new role, he has all the characteristics.”
