Marek Hamsik insists he had no issues with Carlo Ancelotti’s decision to bench him for Napoli’s 3-0 defeat to Sampdoria. “He called me before the game.”
Hamsik was surprisingly rested for the trip to Samp, which ended in a heavy loss for Napoli, but the club captain made it clear he accepted his omission.
“Sitting on the bench was Ancelotti’s decision,” he told his official website.
“Before the game he called me, telling me that he’d make some changes to the XI.

“It was our first defeat of the season. It’s not always possible to come back from falling behind.
“We’ve played three times and done so twice, but we failed on this occasion. Still, we’ll learn and improve our approach to matches.”
The Slovak then had his say on the Partenopei’s Champions League group, which includes Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool and Red Star Belgrade.
“It’s a tough group. PSG, Liverpool and Red Star are opponents of a certain level.
“The atmospheres will be very hot, but they will also be beautiful games to play in so our fans will be needed.”
