“The referee cannot have seen the incident clearly, because Simone Perrotta's push on Asamoah was so very obvious. Then in the very next move, Roma scored…
“I don't want to go over the line, even if this was an evening in which we could've eliminated one of the contenders for the Champions League. Instead we let them back into the race.
“One must always maintain a certain balance and have faith in our referees, who do a difficult job. But that was obviously a penalty on Asamoah. Evidently he didn't see the incident and I accept the result.”
Totti's earlier spot-kick had put the Giallorossi in front until Antonio Di Natale's late equaliser.
“We had got the game back on track despite it not being a brilliant performance. It was horribly naive to throw the point away at the 94th minute after climbing into fourth place.
“Paradoxically, if it had ended at the 75th minute when we were only losing 1-0, I'd have thought the team was tired. But we reacted so strongly and that must give faith in our fitness levels.”
The Friulani were unbeaten in 2011, but have now lost two on the bounce against Lecce and Roma.
“Sadly, now the race for fourth is wide open again,” concluded Guidolin. “If we had more experienced players, we'd have clammed up on the 1-1 result, but it's not in our nature.
“It's also true some of our players are not at their best due to fitness issues, so we weren't as sharp as usual.”
Alexis Sanchez pulled out during the warm-up with a muscular problem, while Di Natale and Mauricio Isla played despite injuries.
