Milan know that a win or a score draw will see them progress to the semi-finals, something that conversely has Guardiola approaching the game with the ambition of Barca scoring as many goals as possible.
“The situation is simple. Whoever wins will go to the semi-finals,” exclaimed the Coach to the collected media on Monday evening. Guardiola answered questions in Spanish and Italian.
“The perception I have is that we must raise our game thinking that Milan can score against us. In recent days I have studied how we can create many chances without it being a danger in defence.
“I don’t mind if we concede a goal, but I must find ways for us to create as many chances as possible.
“Milan has the capacity to play, as in Italy, to dominate the game. They defend well in their area. They have Ibra and can create chances through well-directed passes to him and in this case they are better than us.
“We do not know how to defend a result either for a long period of time. If Milan dominate us, then we should be more careful in defence.
“We will try to attack them in the best way and more often than them. I think if it was 3-0 we would not stop, we’ll look for another goal.”
Guardiola also passed comment on Milan’s weekend match at Catania, a game in which they dropped two points amid claims of having scored a legitimate and potential match-winning goal turned down.
“We must say that the game at Catania was not easy for Milan. In games that count, the Italians know how to play. They know how to win.
“We must play with great intensity and find the right time to attack them. They are also dangerous on set-pieces. Sometimes there are situations that are unfavourable but a team that wants to progress overcomes these things.
“The important thing is that my players leave the pitch tomorrow with a conscience that they have given everything. Let everyone be clear, we will give everything.
“To me, these situations motivate me. Going to the hotel and thinking that we are playing in a quarter-final match tomorrow motivates me a lot.
“It’s like the first year, a privilege to experience it all again. Tomorrow we just need the players to do the rest.”
