Former Lazio midfielder Gaizka Mendieta says he wouldn’t be surprised if Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola moved to Italy at some stage in the future.

Guardiola is currently tied to the Nou Camp giants, but a switch to Serie A has been suggested as an option when he does leave the Catalan outfit.

“His adventure at Barcelona will end one day,” Mendieta is quoted as saying. “And Guardiola will feel the need for a new challenge.

“I don’t know how it will end and I don’t know if he will go at the end of the season. But if he does then given his time in Italy, it will be easier for him to move over there.”

Guardiola, 41, was a classy playmaker for Barcelona before his 2001 switch to Brescia. He also briefly played for Roma a year later before returning to the Stadio Rigamonti outfit.

The Spaniard has been linked with the Inter hot-seat on more than one occasion in the past.
