New Brescia coach Fabio Grosso is excited at getting the "big opportunity" of his first Serie A management job.

Speaking at his first press conference, the former Bari and Verona boss says the chance to manage Brescia was too good to turn down.

"It's such a big opportunity. I have enthusiasm as I've never coached in Serie A. It's the first time I've taken over from someone [mid-season]."

Grosso says the squad has a nice blend of youth and experienced pros.

"I found a team that is a nice mix. The league is complex. There will be many difficult moments like the one we are going through now, but we will do our best to reach our objectives."

Grosso was inevitably asked about Mario Balotelli, who Grosso played with briefly whilst at Inter in the late '00s.

"Mario was a kid when I played with him at Inter. Even then, you could see his great qualities. I see huge potential in Mario, at times he has been able to prove it, but I hope we can work together to demonstrate his value. He just lacks consistency."

Grosso was then asked about working with Massimo Cellino, who has gone through five managers in just over two years since buying the club.

"I know the pitfalls, but with such opportunities there are no worries. The President has a particular character, but I've discovered many interesting points. In this difficult moment we need to be brave and to find our calm. I am ready, it is a beautiful moment of my career."

Grosso believes that Balotelli and Sandro Tonali will play a major part in the survival of Brescia in the top flight this season.

"Mario and Sandro [Tonali] are the jewels in the crown, and we have to know how to value them," said the coach.

Grosso's last job was with Verona in Serie B, but he was sacked in May 2019, just before the promotion play-offs.
