The FIGC President Gabriele Gravina said football has proven to be a ‘lively and high-quality movement’ after the resumption in June.

The Federcalcio chief admitted he felt ‘lonely and abandoned’ during the process of restarting football after the lockdown, but said the achievement felt ‘even greater’.

“There was a need to give a concrete answer to this world,” Gravina said, according to SportItalia journalist Alfredo Pedulla.

“The passion moved us, not only mine but that of millions of Italians. And then the sense of responsibility and farsightedness because not restarting such an important economic system would have led to devastating damages.

“I felt a sense of abandonment, of loneliness, at some point. I do not forget the absence, in crucial moments, of some people who belong to this world.

“But the satisfaction of restarting this machine was even greater. It proved that football is a better world than how it’s often and willingly presented.

“We are a lively and high-quality movement.”
