Lazio are now looking unlikely to sign Swedish international defender Andreas Granqvist from Genoa after Juan Pablo Carrizo’s refusal to go the other way.

The two clubs were in confirmed talks last week over a proposed part-exchange deal involving Granqvist and the goalkeeper and reports on Wednesday suggested it was close to completion.

However, Carrizo is understood to have refused to move to Marassi as part of the transfer because he is unhappy at the prospect of being back-up to Sebastien Frey.

The Argentine spent the final six months of last term on loan at Catania, but the Sicilians could not agree a price with the Aquile for his permanent signature.

With Carrizo pulling out of the deal, La Repubblica report that Genoa asked Lazio for an increased cash amount to secure Granqvist’s signature.

However, with the capital club refusing that request, the Swede’s transfer looks set to called off altogether.
