The Fiorentina striker has been plagued by injuries this term, playing just nine League games since his move last year from Bayern Munich.

But with the tournament in Brazil coming up, the goalscorer has insisted that he is doing all he can to be in Joachim Low’s squad.

“I’ll be back and I’ll be stronger than ever,” he told Bild. “The World Cup is my big goal.

“I am doing everything possible to be there.

“I want to be there to help my team. I can’t contemplate being at home watching the matches on television.”

Unfortunately for the 28-year-old, this Saturday’s Coppa Italia final against Napoli could come too soon.

Coach Vincenzo Montella also already conceded that it is unlikely Gomez will be ready to face the Partenopei.
