The Argentine has taken on Italian citizenship and has been playing for Serie A sides since 2010.

“I would love to play for the Italy team,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“I am Argentine, but have become Italian by now. I’ve been in Italy for many years, my family is Italian, my children grew up here and for me Italy is the same as Argentina, it’s like my home. I’d be very happy to represent the Azzurri.

“(Current Italy Coach Giampero) Ventura came over a few months ago to see our training sessions and we talked. He told me it depends on what I do on the pitch.

“I have become Italian, so if someone is missing on the wing or there’s the possibility for me to play for Italy, I am ready.”
