In a statement released today, the Florence side confirmed the long-awaited return of the German international, who has been sidelined since September.

 “Mario Gomez has now completed his rehabilitation programme and will return to training with the rest of the first team squad next Wednesday,” it reads.

 “Mario Gomez has now completed his rehabilitation programme and will return to training with the rest of the first team squad next Wednesday,” it reads.

The club also provided updates on the varying condition of four other first team squad players.

“Massimo Ambrosini is suffering from an Achilles tendinopathy which prevents him from running comfortably. He will undergo specialist treatment in the next few days.

“Alberto Aquilani suffered a Grade I hamstring injury during the match against Cagliari and has already begun his rehabilitation programme, which will next be reviewed in 14 days.

“Ante Rebic has picked up a metatarsal injury and will undergo physiotherapy next week.

“Nenad Tomovic has shown an improvement on his injury to the patella, so he will now being an on-field rehabilitation programme over the next ten days.”
