“We know England’s qualities, we know this is always a special game, especially after last year. We know that we started this new era, we are concentrated, determined, we know our potential and have to prove it in every game,” Gollini told RAI Sport.

There are more debutants in the line-up, including Federico Gatti, who has never even played in Serie A before.

“These are all important steps towards building something that will help us when the major tournaments come along. Anything can happen in football, Gigio (Donnarumma) dislocated his finger last week and still managed to play.

“The coach is doing a great job rotating the squad, giving everyone an opportunity to play. We need to be ready when called upon.”

Gollini is back in England, having spent the season on loan from Atalanta to Tottenham Hotspur.

“I played with some of the best teammates in the world, a squad of real champions, Lloris won the World Cup with France, so it was a formative experience for me.

“I am also happy to be here at Molineux, as we won the Carabao Cup game here against Wolves on penalties and I was playing that day.”
