Wilfried Gnonto has drawn praise from the Italian press for his style of play and promising performance against Switzerland in the U21 EURO tournament amidst rumours that the 19-year-old could be set to leave Leeds United after their relegation from the Premier League at the end of the 2022-23 season.

La Gazzetta dello Sport, on page 10 of Tuesday’s print edition, hailed Gnonto as ‘one of the most interesting’ young Italian players currently breaking through, citing his 11th minute goal against Switzerland.

La Gazzetta also pointed out that, despite being only 19 years of age and currently the youngest goalscorer at the U21 EUROs, Gnonto was brought in as a “reinforcement”, as he is already a full senior international with 11 caps to his name.

The pink paper went on to describe the talented teenager as a “mature player”, and a sharp shooter who already knows how to impact games both from the wing and central positions.

Gnonto has already proved himself to be capable in the Premier League, despite falling out of favour under the short-lived tenure of Javi Gracia at Leeds this season, and there is a chance that he could return to the English top flight next season.

Everton are reported by multiple sources to be interested in swooping in to take him of Leeds’ hands, whilst La Gazzetta writes that Fiorentina are evaluating making an investment, believing that Gnonto would be the perfect fit for Vincenzo Italiano’s 4-3-3 system.
